On Wednesday, December 10th, applicants for the 2010 Winter Olympic Game ticket lottery were notified if their online ticket requests place last month were selected. However, charges to Visa cards began on December 1st.
Canadians have requested over $345 million dollars in tickets, and there are about 1.6 million tickets available. The lottery covered these popular events: the opening/ closing ceremonies, figure skating, short track speed skating, speed skating, and men's ice hockey. 140,000 people alone applied for the Men’s Gold Medal game, and for the lucky ones, Christmas came a little early.
So chances are, everyone who requested curling tickets will be in luck. I’m serious. Out of the 1.6 million tickets, one million of them are curling tickets!! Okay, I’m kidding. But really, the number of curling events is staggering. I had no idea there is that much curling involved in the Olympic Games. I smell record beer sales ;o)

$25 gets you....one ticket to a cross country ski event
$775 gets you... one ticket to the Men’s Gold Medal Hockey game

But wait...there’s more:
This Friday Dec. 12th. applicants from the first round step up to the plate again, and can order tickets before anyone else. This phase is called the Priority Access Period. However, those brave enough to remain glued to their computers are limited to purchasing these events....

Essentially, the Vancouver Olympic Organizing Committee (VANOC) is maximizing the amount of money extracted from its very first ticket customers, and for the ones who are disappointed they didn’t get anything or get the tickets they wanted, giving them another crack at all of the fun.
PS: congrats to my friend Michelle. She snagged two tickets for the Women’s Ice Hockey BRONZE Medal game. She says she’s already hoping it’s not Team Canada playing in that game. Go Team Finland GO!!!!!!
