Vancouver Millionaire’s : A tribute to a team, the rebirth of a logo
On Friday Nov.21st, I checked out the annual Vancouver Giants Legends Night. In attendance: her Royal Highness, The Stanley Cup, Dave “the Hammer” Schultz, Yvon Cournoyer, Johnny Bower, Steve Shutt, and Gerry Cheevers – All Stanley Cup Champions, all celebrated pre- game in the fabulous Pacific Coliseum.
Not only were those legends revered, The Vancouver Giants also paid a little tribute to some other Legends: The Vancouver Millionaires, the only team in the city’s history to win the Stanley Cup (1915). The Giants were dressed in replica Millionaire uniforms; maroon and cream colored jerseys, with cream colored pants. The Giants beat the Kamloops Blazers 6-3. Normally a game like this would have plenty of rough stuff and fights. However, due to the throngs of minor hockey kids in the crowd, fights were broken up before they had a chance to start.

Over 12,000 fans attended the game and many of them buzzed the Vancouver Millionaires merchandise table. I checked on the table pre-game, during each intermission, and after the game, and every time the crowd at the table was three to four people deep. Look in the picture...one mannequin has the shirt sold right off of its chest!!
Yep the man who owns the rights to the Millionaires, former glam rockin’ body builder, Thor should be pleased with the fans response to the historic logo and looks.

Did you know...much of the Vancouver Millionaire’s memorabilia was destroyed in the fire that burned down the fabled Denman Arena, where the Millionaire’s played?
